The Space Science and Geospatial Institute (SSGI) recently conducted a study on landslide hazards in the Gofa Zone. The team handed over their findings to local authorities to support disaster management efforts.
On November 8, 2024, SSGI shared the study report with the Gofa Zone management. Local stakeholders then met to discuss the research results. During this meeting, SSGI researchers presented critical insights about landslide-prone areas.
Habtamu Fetena, the assistant government official of Gofa Zone, led the discussion. He highlighted the study’s importance. “This research helps us understand the risks and plan effective actions to reduce landslide impacts in vulnerable areas,” he said. The study identified high-risk districts and cities, giving clear directions on where to focus preparedness efforts.
Mr. Habtamu thanked SSGI for conducting this valuable research. He emphasized that the findings would guide future development and disaster risk reduction in the region.
Mr. Nathaniel Agenehu, the leader of Geodesy and Geodynamics at SSGI, presented the study. He stressed the importance of using spatial data to understand environmental hazards.
