Mapping

The mapping department is engaged in the comprehensive production of maps that delineate the international, regional, zonal, district, and kebele boundaries of the country. This work is conducted in close coordination with other working units when requested by the government. In addition to boundary maps, the department focuses on producing basic maps and geo-spatial data that adhere to international quality and standards. This includes meticulous metadata preparation, which ensures that all map data is properly documented and easily accessible for various applications.

One of the key tasks undertaken by the department is the collection of geographic names from the field and diverse sources. This involves organizing, storing, and preparing the information for publication. By maintaining accurate and comprehensive geographic naming conventions, the department enhances the usability of its maps. Furthermore, the department conducts research on the use and relevance of maps, examining aspects such as scale, size, symbols, and resources.
