Ministry of Innovation and Technology Visits SSGI
Senior leaders from the Ministry of Innovation and Technology and other relevant institutions recently visited the Space Science and Geospatial Institute (SSGI) and the Entoto Observatory Center. This visit aimed to evaluate the institute’s progress, provide necessary monitoring and support, and facilitate knowledge exchange among institutions.
The Ministry of Innovation and Technology’s visit to SSGI highlighted the importance of Ethiopia leveraging its space science and geospatial capabilities to drive national development. Minister of Innovation and Technology, Dr. Belete Molla, emphasized the need for collaboration with international institutions and local educational organizations to foster an educated generation capable of advancing the sector.
This visit reaffirmed the government’s commitment to utilizing advancements in space science and geospatial technologies to contribute significantly to Ethiopia’s economic growth and sustainable development.

Dr. Belete highlighted the broad scope of the sector, which spans from Earth-based projects to space exploration. He urged Ethiopia to collaborate with international institutions to achieve its objectives in the space science and geospatial fields.
The Minister noted that activities in these sectors are significantly contributing to the growth of Ethiopia’s national economy. He praised the centers for crop monitoring, geodetic infrastructure services, urban development monitoring, water monitoring, rural information monitoring, disaster monitoring, and digital mapping for their effective support in national development efforts.
Additionally, he stressed the importance of establishing strong connections with universities and secondary schools to inspire Ethiopia’s youth and cultivate an educated generation to advance the sector further.
By focusing on education and collaboration, Ethiopia is poised to unlock its potential in space science and geospatial technologies, paving the way for sustainable development and economic growth.
