Ethiopian Physics Association Signs MoU with SSGI to strengthen collaboration

The 19th Ethiopian Physics Association Conference, held on February 21–22, 2025, at Haramaya University, was co-organized by SSGI. During the conference’s opening ceremony, the Ethiopian Physics Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SSGI to strengthen collaboration.

In his speech regarding the MoU, the Deputy Director General of SSGI, Eng. Abdulrazak Omar, emphasized the Institute’s commitment to working with associations, institutions, and organizations in the space science and geospatial sectors. He highlighted the importance of knowledge and technology transfer, problem-solving research, and joint social service initiatives to drive comprehensive national development. He stated that the MoU serves as a strategic step toward achieving these objectives.

The President of the Ethiopian Physics Association, Prof. Fekadu Gashaw, expressed his gratitude to SSGI for its exceptional support and cooperation over the years. He extended special thanks to the Director General of SSGI, Mr. Abdisa Yilma, for his leadership and contributions in bringing the MoU to fruition. As part of the agreement, the association committed to enhancing collaboration with SSGI, and in recognition of its contributions, it presented a certificate of appreciation to the Institute.

Haramaya University Vice President, Prof. Mitiku Urge, opened the conference, highlighting physics’ impact on technology and the need to improve its education and perception. American expert Prof. Solomon Bilelign also attended as a guest speaker, presenting on urban air pollution.

Was jointly organized by SSGI, Dire Dawa University, Jigjiga University, Oda Bultum University, and the Ethiopian Physics Association of North America. More than 150 physicists and founding members of the association from across the country participated in the event.
