UNGGIM Africa 2024: Ethiopia’s Geospatial Innovations on Display
The 10th United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management for Africa (UNGGIM) Joint Meeting took place, with the Space Science and Geospatial Institute (SSGI) actively participating.
On October 30, 2024, the Director General of SSGI, Abdisa Yilma, addressed the gathering, welcoming participants and expressing gratitude to UNGGIM for its impactful contributions to advancing geospatial initiatives across Africa, particularly through its working groups. In his message, the Director General highlighted Ethiopia’s recent developments in geospatial information management. Specifically, he shared details about the preparation of three new standards and 14 national information content documents aimed at advancing the implementation of the Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (IGIF) within the country.
As the meeting approached, participants continued with a thorough review of activities undertaken by various working groups. During UNGGIM Africa Meeting, attendees also took the opportunity to experience Addis Ababa’s expanding tourist attractions, with Director General Yilma inviting them to explore these new destinations and enjoy their stay in Ethiopia.
