Space Science and geospatial institute - spatial decision support department completes GIS and crime data collection training for Addis Ababa Police Department.

Space Science and geospatial institute (SSGI) spatial decision support department has completed providing GIS and crime data collection training to statistics, intelligence, and crime monitoring experts from Addis Ababa Police Department. The training focuses on introducing and implementing technologies that enable the use of geospatial technology data for crime geographic distribution and forecasting services.

The director general of the institute, Mr. Abdisa Yilma, said that the work of helping institutions by promoting and using geospatial technology and developing efficient and high-quality information will continue.

Commissioner Solomon Fantahun, Head of Addis City Police Department, said that geospatial data will play a significant role in changing the police force’s data collection, management and analysis from manual to modern and efficient.

The commissioner emphasized that this training demonstrates a crucial step in modernizing police institutions, introducing and implementing geospatial technologies in Ethiopia for enhanced efficiency.

SSGI has handed over to the police department computers that help in the use of geospatial technology data and maps showing the addresses of police stations and community policing offices that help in controlling the spread of crime in the district and for operations.

The trainees said that by assisting the police force in data collection, management and analysis with geospatial technology, it will help to provide efficient services and make crime prevention work effective.
