1. Aerospace Postgraduate Program Objectives
The Space Science and Geospatial Institute (SSGI), in collaboration with Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU), is committed to building Ethiopia’s future in aerospace through inclusive, high-quality postgraduate education. The primary aim is to bridge the gap in skilled professionals in aerospace engineering, space science, and satellite communication.
Key Objectives:
Promote research, innovation, and academic-industry collaboration in aerospace technologies
Strengthen the human resource capacity of public institutions in the space and geospatial sectors.
2. Program Offerings
M.Sc. in Space Engineering
Gain expertise in satellite systems, propulsion, orbital mechanics, and space mission design.
M.Sc. in Aeronautical Engineering
Focuses on the design and development of drones, CubeSats, rockets, aerodynamics, and flight control systems.
Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering
A research-driven program offering opportunities to lead innovations in aerospace systems, advanced materials, propulsion, and computational engineering, in close collaboration with faculty and industry leaders.
3. Eligibility and Admission to the Graduate Program (GP)
3.1. Eligibility
Eligible candidates include holders of B.Sc., B.Ed., or M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Thermal Engineering, Power Engineering, or closely related fields. Qualified graduates from these disciplines are encouraged to apply to the advanced Aerospace Postgraduate Program.
Admission Criteria
Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering
Applicants must:
Hold a Master’s degree by thesis from an accredited institution with a minimum rating of “Good”. And meet the selection criteria, which may include an entrance exam.
Provide two letters of recommendation from academic or professional references.
M.Sc. Programs in Aeronautical or Space Engineering
Applicants must:
Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from a recognized university.
Have a minimum CGPA of 3.00 (males) or 2.75 (females).
Achieve the minimum score on the National Graduate Admission Test (NGAT) set by the Ministry of Education.
Submit two recommendation letters from instructors or employers.

SSGI-sponsored students will have the following benefits (Tuition fee and financial assistance)
Tuition fee
All SSGI-sponsored students admitted to the program will benefit from a complete tuition fee waiver for the entire duration of their studies, both at the Master’s and Ph.D. levels.
Financial Assistance and Project-Based Support (only SSGI sponsored)
In addition to free tuition, the Institute provides financial assistance by offering admitted students (SSGI sponsored) the opportunity to engage in ongoing research, development, and innovation projects. Participation in these projects allows students to: Gain hands-on, practical experience, contribute to national aerospace and satellite missions
Academic Transcript Requirement
As per the regulations of AASTU, all applicants must ensure that their official academic transcripts are submitted and verified before enrollment. Failure to meet this requirement will not allow students to register for the program.
