Digital Address System Agreement Signed for Bahir Dar

On August 15, 2024, the Space Science and Geospatial Institute, Bahir Dar City Administration, and Bahir Dar University signed a memorandum of understanding to create a digital address system for Bahir Dar.

Mr. Belachew Tsehay, Director General of the Institute; Mr. Asme Birle, Mayor of Bahir Dar; and Prof. Enyew Adgo, President of Bahir Dar University, signed the MoU.

Mr. Tsehay stressed the importance of digital identity, e-services, and a digital address system in the government’s strategy for a digital economy. He highlighted that a digital economy cannot be built without an address system.

The digital address system (eDAS) will roll out in 73 Ethiopian cities, aiming to improve the efficiency and accessibility of services, boost economic growth, and enhance urban living standards while supporting sustainable development goals.

Mayor Asme Birle emphasized that the project will modernize Bahir Dar, streamline activities, and improve access for tourists and businesses.

Prof. Enyew Adgo pledged Bahir Dar University’s full support for the project. The digital address system project has started, and Mr. Agmase Gebeyu, the Institute’s Digital Address System Manager, expects it to be fully operational within 12 months.
