Platform and Application Development
The Platform and Application Development (PAD) lead executive heads a business unit that equips the institute with technologies and applications for managing space and geospatial data. Effective Space and Geospatial information management workflows are achieved through development, configuration and publishing of services that enable access to raw and value-added data, facilitate data management and dissemination. To this end, the development of web-enabled platforms that are based on family of open standards and Web Services specifications is a key area in which the efforts of the PAD are focused. Indeed, the PAD lead executive is tasked with the development of mobile application in the area to solve societal challenges.
After analyzing the mandates assigned to the lead executive, the team has identified two major product lines. The first product line, the Platform line, focuses on developing geospatial platforms to establish a spatial data infrastructure (SDI) ecosystem in Ethiopia. In addition, it aims at developing national addressing system the data of which the backbone for building digital economy. The other product line is the Applications product line which mainly focuses the development of on-demand customer based geospatial applications to enable the public sector in informed decision making processes.
The strategic focus areas of Platform and Application Development :
Bridge the space and Geospatial information technology divide through continuous technology maturity assessment, product line identification and solution development.
Realize National Geospatial information and technology ecosystems through the implementation of system of SDI systems.
Build national digital addressing system in partnership with national and international stakeholders.
Select and/or develop space and geospatial technology research infrastructure to support domain research processes.
Develop geospatial applications to support informed decision-making in land management, emergency response, environmental protection, health services, and SDG tracking.
