eDAS for Three Cities

On December 13, 2025, the Space Science and Geospatial Institute (SSGI), in coordination with the South Ethiopia Regional Land Administration Bureau, signed an entry agreement to initiate the preparation and implementation of a digital addressing system (eDAS) with the administrations of Arba Minch, Jinka, and Wolayita Sodo cities, in partnership with Arba Minch University.

The agreement was signed by the Institute’s Deputy Director General, Mr. Belachew Tsehay, alongside representatives from the three city administrations and Arba Minch University, marking a significant milestone in advancing Ethiopia’s digital transformation agenda.

In his remarks, Mr. Belachew Tsehay emphasized that the digital addressing system is a core component of Digital Ethiopia 2030, a national initiative designed to accelerate the country’s transition to a digital economy. He explained that the system plays a coordinating role by integrating digital identification (Fayda), postal and parcel delivery services, and other digital platforms, with a strong focus on practical implementation across sectors that rely on accurate addressing.

The Deputy Director General further noted that the digital addressing system (eDAS) is already being practically implemented in 73 cities across Ethiopia and is expected to significantly improve the efficiency and accessibility of administrative, economic, and social services. He highlighted its contribution to sustainable economic growth, improved urban management, enhanced public safety, and overall citizen convenience.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Sebsibe Bunabe, Head of the Land Administration Bureau of the Southern Ethiopia Regional Government, stated that the regional government is strategically committed to building a robust digital economy. He underlined that digital identification, electronic services (e-services), and the digital addressing system are foundational pillars of this effort, and that the agreement will play a vital role in strengthening the SMART City initiatives being implemented in the participating cities.

Representatives from the administrations of Arba Minch, Jinka, and Wolayita Sodo, as well as Arba Minch University, expressed their strong commitment to supporting the successful implementation of the digital addressing system. They reaffirmed their dedication to ensuring quality, timely execution, and alignment with national digital development and sustainability goals.

The digital addressing system project in the three cities officially commenced following the signing of the agreement. Mr. Agmasse Gebeyehu, Project Manager of the Digital Addressing System at SSGI, stated that the expansion and operationalization of the system will be completed within a short timeframe, enabling the cities to fully benefit from the digital address infrastructure.
