The Director General of the Ethiopian Space Science and Geospatial Institute (SSGI), Abdissa Yilma Tiky, held high-level discussions with Dmitry Bakanov in Moscow, marking a significant step in Ethiopia Russia space cooperation.

The meeting took place on April 9, 2026, at the headquarters of ROSCOSMOS, where both sides explored opportunities to strengthen collaboration in space science and technology.

Focus on Capacity Building and Technology Transfer

During the discussions, Abdissa Yilma highlighted Ethiopia’s multi-sectoral national development initiatives, including ongoing efforts in space science and geospatial technology led by Ethiopian Space Science and Geospatial Institute.

He emphasized Ethiopia’s interest in learning from Russia’s extensive experience in space infrastructure development and human resource training. The talks reflected Ethiopia’s ambition to accelerate its capabilities through international partnerships.

ROSCOSMOS Expresses Readiness to Collaborate

On his part, Dmitry Bakanov reaffirmed the Russian agency’s willingness to support Ethiopia Russia space cooperation by sharing expertise and strengthening institutional capacity in space-related technologies.
